An oil painting creation of Gui Fei Zui Jiu (drunken imperial concubine)
by China's rising oil painting artist Liu Linghua is displayed as part of
a luxurious products exhibition in Guangzhou, South China's
Guangdong Province December 7, 2006. The creation is priced
at 10 million yuan (US$1,250,000).
Though he lived in poverty most of his life, Vincent van Gogh's works are now almost priceless, on the rare occasion they come up at auction. Liu Linghua, who's known as China's "van Gogh" is rather better off, as his works attract very high prices indeed, while he's alive.
Liu Linghua was born in 1963 and graduated from Print Art Faculty of Xi'an Academy of Art. His graduating work "Tibet Series" was selected in the "China Modern Printing Exhibition" in England. In 2000, he held an exhibition at the China Museum of Art in Beijing. The same year, he held "China's Quintessence: Liu Linghua's Canvas Feature Exhibition" in both the China Art Fair in Beijing, and the Shanghai Art Fair.
At last it is Guangzhou's turn and Liu will bring his canvas works to the Guangzhou Luxury Exhibition at the Jinhan Exhibition Center next Friday (Dec. 15). His works "Years", "Drunk Imperial Concubine", "Zhao's Orphan", "Hong Niang" and "Rose" are priced respectively at ¥12 million, ¥10 million, ¥8 million, ¥6 million and ¥5 million.
